SIDNEY PAGET
1860 - 1908
Sidney Paget is the most famous of all illustrators of the
Canon. He illustrated The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, The Memoirs of Sherlock
Holmes, The Hound of the Baskervilles and The Return of Sherlock Holmes
for the Strand Magazine. The art editor of the Strand wanted Paget’s younger brother
Walter to do the artwork, but the commission was sent in error to Sidney, who used Walter as a model for Sherlock Holmes.
